On 22 Oct 2021, STMGSS teachers gathered at Central Ferry Pier in the morning and headed to Cheung Chau Government Secondary School (CCGSS) for the 1st Staff Development Day. The theme was “Ensuring A Safe Learning Environment, Nurturing Good Citizens, Implementing Civic and National Education with the Help of Thematic Learning and Learning across the Curriculum”. As it was a joint-school professional development programme, teachers of both government schools exchanged and shared experiences. Views were exchanged on maintaining a safe learning environment, cultivating good citizens, implementing Moral, Civic, and National Education through thematic learning modes, and STEM Education. The VA teacher of CCGSS shared her experiences and arranged a handicraft workshop for our teachers to have a taste making a “Cheung Chau style” artwork. It was a relaxing and an enjoyable activity. In the afternoon, teachers of different subject departments had excursions on the island to search for ideas and materials to “design a good lesson”. The First Staff Development Day boosted teaching effectiveness and at the same time provided a platform for exchange and interflow of teachers from both schools.
